Only we would rent a house and offer to update it for the owner!  In our defense, the carpet in bathrooms thing is disgusting.  There was no way I was going to live with that!  We also discovered there was a gas hookup for a range top.  Marc scored an open box gas stove top for $100!  Good bye ugly electric glass top!
