Great Grandma Simpson...
Today, Great Grandma Simpson and Aunt Jeneen met Maia. Grandma had Maia and was rocking in the recliner with her. Aunt Jeneen and myself were up in the kitchen making lunch. I went to tell Grandma it was time to eat, and this is how I found them! Awww!

Maia's Going Home...

Maia's Birth Story...
Thursday April 12nd - I had a routine Dr appointment where I was 3 cm dilated and 80 % effaced. The doctor lightly stripped my membranes. By the evening, I was contracting every 7 minutes.
Friday April 13th- I continued contracting every 7 minutes as the pain began to get more intense. I went into OB Triage where they told me I was still 3 cm dilated but predicted I would be back in given my contractions being so steady and decently close together.
Saturday April 14th- 3:45am, Marc and I headed into OB Triage because my contractions were now only 5 minutes apart. Sadly, I was only 3 1/2 cm dilated. I tried to rest all day on the couch even though every 5 minutes I was barely able to move or speak. The pain and strength of these contractions were killing my hips and back. However, I was determined to stick it out at home as long as possible because it's a long draining process to keep going into OB Triage to then just be sent home. As the evening approached, my contractions sometimes got closer together but got even stronger. I decided to go into OB Triage, get checked, and hope that if I wasn't going to be kept I could make it through the night so we didn't inconvenience Marc's parents. Upon arrival, the nurse checked me and I was a good 4 cm dilated. Typically 4 cm is when they check you in for labor and delivery. Since I was 38 weeks and 5 days pregnant and just 3 days shy of 39 weeks, the doctor wanted me to be 5 cm dilated before she would check me in. My spirits were crushed. My body was beyond tired. The pain was almost unbearable! My biggest fear was that if I got sent home, I wouldn't make it back to the hospital and end up with a home or in transit birth. The nurse was wonderful, she examined me after an hour of monitoring and realized I was slowly progressing. She stripped membranes and did some stretching. She asked me to walk for 30 minutes and then would check me again. I walked around the maternity floor for 15 minutes before I could no longer catch my breathe. Contractions picked up to every 3-4 minutes and were even more painful. I asked the nurse to come and check me early. She did, smiled at me, and said lets go get you set up in a room you're gonna have a baby!
Labor officially begins-11:15am I get settled in my labor and delivery room. 45 minutes went by while I waited for the anesthesiologist. I thought I was going to die. The pain was insane. For curious minds... yes I ALWAYS get pain medicine. I have never had interest in laboring any of my children naturally! During those 45 minutes, I went from 5cm to 7cm dilated! Once my epidural was placed, we noticed it wasn't taking on my right side. After monitoring my contractions for 45 more minutes, it was decided that the doctor would take out the epidural, replace it, and hope it takes in the new spot. Once it was in place for the second time, it appeared as though my right side was numb. The nurse turned the lights down and let Marc and I rest while my body transitioned to 10 cm. 1 hour later, I woke up screaming in pain. I not only could feel the contractions on my right side, but it felt like something was tugging at my right thigh as well as a knife was stabbing my back hip area. While waiting for the nurse, Dr Freeman entered the room and planned to break my water and check my progress. She lifted up the sheet and realized my water had already broke. She examined me and found the baby was right there ready to be pushed out. At this point, there was nothing anyone could do for the intense pain I was feeling. Marc encouraged me to push as soon as the Dr was ready so that the pain could go away. 3:17 we waited as a contraction began, I was asked to push, Maia crowned, I pushed one more time while screaming in pain and out she came! Instantly the pain was gone and I felt a million times better! The way she was laying with the feeling to push is what the doctor thinks was causing my pain.
3:19 AM Maia Alyse Simpson joined our family weighing 6 lbs 14oz and was 19 inches in length.

Although this was by far the longest and toughest labor of all our children, in the end it is all worth it! Maia is such a special, adorable, bundle of joy. We are so very blessed with what God has given us!

Brush, Keep Brushing...
Rosalia is obsessed with brushes. Ava was sitting on the couch doing her homework when Rosalia sat behind her and began brushing her hair. Rosalia was doing such a great job that when she stopped brushing Ava's hair, Ava turned around and said "Brush, keeping brushing that feels good."
Per Ava's request Rosalia continued brushing!

Trying To Keep Busy...

Happy Easter...
We had a very early morning, the children woke up at 5:45am! Even though Marc and I go to bed fairly early these days, it was still tough being up so early. The good news is that our mass time wasn't until 10:30am so we had plenty of time to egg/basket hunt, eat breakfast, and get everyone presentable. The only negative to the little kids being up so early was that by the time we were ready to leave for church, snapping a quick picture was near impossible. After Mass, we spent the afternoon at Aunt Donna's for a nice Easter dinner with the rest of the family. This past week had been so full with after school activities and other stuff that the kids didn't get a chance to decorate their eggs. So after dinner we let them color their eggs. It was a long but fun day!

Pregnancy Pictures With Marc...
This afternoon, Marc and I took some pictures together. Although I have been pregnant 6 times, we have never taken photos together with my big ol' belly! Here are a few of the many we took. As you can see Marc was in a goofy mood which made for some funny and interesting shots to go with a few nice smiley ones!

Mommy Day Out...
A few weeks ago, a couple close friends of mine approached me offering to throw me a baby shower. This may come as a shock but I have never had a "baby shower". The closest thing to a shower, was when I was pregnant with Liliana, some work friends went to lunch with me and surprised me with a few gifts. These friends of mine were so funny, they really wanted to throw me a shower but considering we don't need a single thing for this baby and it is #6, I just didn't feel like I needed one.
They were determined that I needed something so a girl's day out fit the bill! Kristen and Maureen took care of planning the day out, all I had to do was be ready when they came to pick me up. Marc was super dad and kept all 5 kids while I enjoyed my kid-free outing!
We enjoyed some time at the spa getting pedicures, then headed to lunch at a local place I had been dying to try out but never made it to, and finished our afternoon out with some shopping at an outdoor mall. All 3 of us always have at least 1-2 kids in tow so it was nice that we were all kid-free and able to browse some of the smaller boutique stores!
Before shopping, they surprised me with some really great gifts. Kristen's mom (whom I've met only twice) was super sweet and got a few adorable outfits for Maia as well.
I am so very blessed to have such wonderful friends in my life. They didn't have to offer to throw me a baby shower, they didn't have to offer a day out, they didn't have to buy such adorable gifts for Maia, but they WANTED to!
And for that I am truly thankful!
