Future Car Mechanic?...

Daddy's car battery died.  Garrison wanted to help change it.  According to Marc he did a great job.

Shadow Student Day...

Liliana's Jr High School offers what they call "Sabercat Days".  These days are for the students to fuel school spirit and make them feel comfortable in their surroundings during such transitional times in their young lives.  Today was a "Sabercat Day" named "shadow your student".  Some students got sassy and nicknamed the day "stalk your student".  Yes folks, 7th grade is when it is no longer cool to have your parents anywhere near you!  Liliana wanted me to attend but then didn't!  She expressed many worries in the days leading up to today.  All her worries were (in my adult eyes) silly at best!
Wondering what worries she had...
1) I would embarrass her
(As parents we would never intentionally do such a thing contrary to what the child thinks
2) I wouldn't be able to correctly answer class work her teachers were going to give out
(She was so wrong!  I did her entire math bonus work.  I'll get to that in a bit)
3) I would be the only parent there out of all her friends
(I wasn't)
4) I wouldn't be able to hack it in dodgeball
(I rocked it!)
5) I wouldn't be able to keep up when she transitioned classes because she only has 4 minutes to get from one class to another
(I kept up!)
6) I would keep her friends from coming near her or talking to her
(She was so wrong...they said hello and introduced themselves!)

Our day...
Her schedule started with Drama.  What a great way to start the day.  She was in show off mode and volunteered for the first skit.  Her drama teacher is very comical and after just the first 5 minutes of class, I understood why this was Liliana's favorite class and one of her favorite teachers!
Next we went to science.  A subject I wasn't too bad in.  Liliana does NOT enjoy science or her teacher.  He has a very dry humor that many of his students don't always get.  The assignment was half review on seismic waves.  Parents were allowed to help but Liliana was still in "my mom knows nothing" mode.  I say back frustrated she didn't know the answers.  She did finish her paper.
Next we went to Math.  My favorite subject.  Liliana's most hated subject.  (I know, amazing she's my daughter!). The class started off with the teacher having the students grade their own work.  Next she handed out a bonus worksheet.  It would be worth 50 pts and parents could help or complete it for the student.  Before she gave directions, I already filled in my answers. Liliana looked confused at my paper.  After directions were given she explained the answers were coordinates that we had to graph.  By this time, I had one whole set of coordinates graphed.  At this moment, I became Liliana's favorite person in the world.  As the teacher held up a picture of what the coordinates would make, I was nearly done.  Liliana begged me to give her my paper for the 50 pts.  I held onto it for a couple periods before handing it over.  Her next class was my least favorite.  My least favorite for two reasons... 1) I always disliked English class and 2) Liliana has language arts for two straight periods.  The class was as boring as I remember it being.  Correcting grammer followed by a boring story about something that nearly put me to sleep.  The parents had Zero interaction in this class.  It was weird being stuck just sitting there not being able to participate.  The bell finally rang and off to Social Studies we went.  Liliana's favorite subject and other favorite teacher.  Ironically social studies NEVER interested me.  It bored me almost as much as English class.  I'll give the social studies teacher credit though.  He at least planned a class around the parents participating.  We listened to music from the Civil War and had to help our students answer questions about the music.  It was very funny seeing many kids not understand certain questions even after being told the correct answers!  The teacher hoped we would get through 3 different songs.  The class only made it through 1!  The bell rang and it was last period...GYM!
I was warned for days, that I needed to wear my sneakers and participate.  I prepared myself for this specific period.  Too bad every other parent except 1 did NOT!  Liliana doesn't realize but I'm very independent!  It didn't bother me that all the "boring parents" stood sideline while we warmed up and played kickball!  I love a good game of kickball.  The kids were happy to have me on their team!  Every single ball was kicked in my direction and I caught every ball except 1.  That 1 ball bounced off me and a girl caught it!  We still got the out!  Liliana kicked awesome.  She's at a very awkward growing stage where she hasn't grown into her long legs yet.  Surprisingly she did great at kickball.  I think dodgeball with the boys twice a week is really doing her good!  We didn't keep score but our team rocked!  If you can't tell, I enjoyed gym class!  On the way out of school Liliana answered my one question...
"Did I embarrass you?"
Her answer
"No"

She didn't admit it but obviously her concerns she had leading up to today were never validated!!  The silly things we worry about as a young child!
